Kennedy Gold MineThe Kennedy Mine, is over 5,900 feet deep making it one of the deepest gold mines in the world. Other mines in the area include the Lincoln and the Sutter Mine. The California Gold Rush began a few miles to the north by James Marshall. It was the discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill in 1848 that led to the greatest mass movement of people in the western hemisphere. |

The Kennedy Gold Mine produced approximately 34 million dollars in gold. Visitors to the Kennedy Gold Mine can see the 125-foot high metal head frame, tour several mining buildings, and learn the history of the Kennedy Mine. The mine also had one of the largest stamp mills in the Mother Lode, moving tailings by means of huge wooden wheels, some of which are still standing.
